It took a while longer than we planned, but the new 1.7.0 version of the Best Farrier app is now available for downloading. You can use the buttons below or tap on the update message directly in the app’s home screen.
This version is a little special, because all we did this time was add some features requested by our subscribers. We really appreciate ideas and suggestions on how to improve Best Farrier, so keep those suggestions coming. More user requested features will be added in future versions.
So, what’s new?
Horses can now use group colors
As you probably know, we added contact groups in the last version, which allows users to separate contacts in groups, each with their own color (used in the contact icons and some other screens, as explained in this post). Now, horses can use the same groups in much of the same manner. So if you use contact groups to plan your travels for example, you’ll be able to see which horses are in which areas easily now.
Horses will have the option of not using any group, or using the same group as their owner or the stable they’re boarded at. There is a new setting under App Settings that determines the default option for new horses. All currently existing horses will also use the same option. You can also edit any individual horse and override the app setting if needed. When not using a group color, the horse will use the app’s default grayish blue.
- Horses using contact groups will be displayed in the group’s color. You can also filter by group using the icon on the top bar.
- You can override the app setting on any individual horse by editing it.
- The group color and description is now shown on the horse detail screen.
- New settings for horse group usage.
Contacts can have notes, now
We added notes to contacts, so now you can write reminders or important information about a contact right on their records. You also have the option to show the notes on appointments (while creating and/or viewing them), so they’re specially useful to keep those reminders about clients with special requirements (we all have that one client that can only be scheduled on Tuesdays or Thursdays in the morning).
- Contact notes are shown in today’s appointments on the home screen.
- Editing contact notes in the contact edit screen.
- You can see the contact notes, and whether they’re shown on appointments, on the contact detail screen.
- Contact note is shown in the appointment edit screen.
- Contact note is shown in the appointment detail screen.
You can chose to print the next appointment times on invoices
Until now, only the next appointment date was printed on the invoice, the idea being that it would give farriers a little more flexibility to rearrange their appointments until the time they actually make their calls to let their stops know when to expect them.
It turns out some of you are really organized and keep your schedules really consistent, so we added a setting in the App Settings that lets you choose to also print the appointment time alongside the date on the invoices.
- “Print appointment times” in the app settings.
- Appointment time printed along the date on an invoice.
